evaluation

Evaluation

What is the problem?

Brief 1. Illustration and layout. Brief 2. T-shirts. Brief 3. Poster design

What subject are you focusing on?

Mythology, education, illustration, character and narrative

To what depth are you investigating this subject? Is it sufficient?

Considerably but I need to do a few case studies on book publishers and illustration based agencies such as big active.

What is the form and amount of your research to date?

Mainly collected material such as books, primary research from visits and tinty web research on my blog. And a large collection of different papers.

What visual material do you have to work with? What media format is it?

Printed out illustration generated with software as well as drawings in sketchbooks and layout pad and layout proposals and plans.

Is there an appropriate amount of work for the time you have had to develop it?

I believe so.

If there isn’t why is this? How could you improve your work rate?

Better action planning may improve my productivity

What is your timescale? When is the deadline?

The deadline for brief one was originally for the 27th march but has been extended to april 10th, brief two (lazy oaf) is to be submitted to the online compotition by the 30th, brief 3 will be finished on Monday the 30th march but I might continue it by working through the back catalogue.

What is achievable in the time available?

Due to extension I should be able to achieve everything I intended to through the brief.

What methods are you using to evaluate the progress of your ideas?

Crits and bloging has been used as the main means of evaluation as well as self evaluation and personal objectivity.

Focus

What are you identifying as areas worth developing further?

Illustrative style and paper collection seem like a good area to develop.

What are you trying to communicate?

With brief one I am trying to communicate the myth of Hercules. Briefs 2+3 are more personal self communication briefs.

What audience have you identified?

The audience for brief one is primary school children, brief 2 is a group of designers, brief 3 is for students.

Who are they?

Children aged 6-11 learning about mythology at school, they are interested in cool pictures and learn best through interation. Brief 2 is for a group of designers mainly women aged 23-40 who are interested in illustration character and have a fondness for the cute and kooky. Brief 3 is for students like myself aged 18-22 generally of all sorts of background and interests generally fashionable.

What problems have you identified?

Children struggle to comprehend complicated texts. I may not work in the right kind of ‘style’ for lazy oaf. And I think that most people who pick up don’t panic packs throw them away and have potential to be idiots.

How do you intend to solve these?

I will be making the illustration for brief one to be of narratalogical nature. Theres not much I can do about the other two.

What further research does this require?

I need to do some case studies on education using the material I have acquired in my research activities.

What is your intention?

To win it. To apply my illustration skills and style to my 3-d work successfully with future projects.

Development

Have you moved on from your initial starting point? If so how and why?

My outcomes have become less product based over the course of development.

What methods are you using to document this development?

Mainly my blog.

What processes will you need to use to develop your work?

Better blogging criting and self evaluation.
